Basically, everything you upload to your post as the first picture will be taken as the main thumbnail for the slideshow and the home page boxes. If you don’t have a picture it will just show a picture of a dog and a overlay saying “NO PICTURE”.

    i installed this theme from within wordpress and after that i cant even log in from wordpress to acess my dashboard

    I am getting this error
    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘{‘ in /home/powerpoi/public_html/australiantopsites/wp-content/themes/slidette/functions.php on line 146

    My homepage is http://www.megabyte.com.au

    Pls can you tell me how i can fix this.

    • Ciprian says:

      You did not install the theme correctly. Delete the directory Slidette from ftp (wp-content/themes/Slidette) to solve the problem with the error ) and reinstall. IF problem continues go to contact page on appchain , send me a message and I will help you with this.

      • Dallas says:

        I’m having the same parsing error. Any advice? I’ve installed three times. Thanks for any info.

        • Jon says:

          I’m having the same issue! Installed by uploading the zip file as well as trying to install directly from searching in the themes directory. Same error both ways.

  4. Wendy says:

    Hi, how can I change the speed of the slide transition?

    • Ciprian says:

      Hi Wendy,
      xWaitTimeline in script.js is set to 3000 (3000 miliseconds.. that’s 3 seconds)…
      The xWaitTimeline is in many places in the script.js file. So you need to replace all the 3000’s with x000’s where x is the number of seconds you want.
      Next version will have a option in the admin panel for this.

  5. Parker says:

    How can I change the Menu/Nav bar to white #FFFFFF, can’t find the code to change.

    xGreen xMenu/?????is it in the .CSS style sheet or header.php or somewhere else

    Anything would help, great template!!!

    thanks, a mill.

    • Ciprian says:

      Unfortunately that is part of a 1px background image that repeats itself slidette/images/gHeaderBackground.jpg . So either you modify that or you put something over it.
      I will upload the psd to appchain soon.

  6. mark says:

    This is a great theme, how can I change the featured posts?.

    Many thanks

    Mark

    • Ciprian says:

      Look in the admin panel. Left menu in wp-admin on the bottom where it says Slidette. You get to choose Slideshow Category and Homepage Boxes Category.

      • Chris B says:

        Hey Cip, thank you again! I’m trying to change the Slideshow and Homepage Boxes Category. I’ve gone and added Homepage as a Category…wanting to leave the slide as Uncategorized and the 4 boxes as Homepage….but after doing this and going to Slidette options the drop down boxes on both only show still the Uncategorized…Do I need to wait for it to refresh?

  7. Saad says:

    I must say, Its a premium theme for free

  8. Parker says:

    I fixed it, thanks for your previous comment.

    One more thing, how can i move the side bar over?

    OR can i make the ‘content’ box on the home/main page narrower and not go off into the side bar or get cut off when using overflow:hidden.

  9. Parker says:

    Can I add padding to the stylesheet.CSS
    and move over the sidebar???
    Just want to tweak!

    Guess I will have to get firebug with firefox and try some more tweaking.

    Props on the great template/theme.

    PRKR

  10. Parker says:

    wish you could tell me how to nudge over the right sidebar, I don’t know how!!!

    Thanks for responding.
    cheers.

  11. hello,

    i would like to use a larger sized logo (950 x 700), what settings in the stylesheet would I need to change? thanks!

  12. Hello Ciprian! I’m starting a new website and your theme suites just perfect. Thank you for this amazing easy theme for free!

    Can I possible take out the slide on the posts? Like, just have the slide on the homepage for example?

    help needed, thank you and greetings from Sahara Desert!

    • Ciprian says:

      Hi,
      Yes it’s possible but it requires some coding…
      In a later version of the theme you will have this option in the admin panel. Don’t know when that version will come as I am busy with other work right now…
      Cip

      • Salut Ciprian ce faci! thank you for your answer. Well, I tried to change the HEADER code only to the SINGLE POST, but it doesn’t work. When do you think you’ll have it ready? Can I help somehow?

        I’m making a Online City Guide to the city of Ouarzazate, and, your theme fits perfectly, but just needs this little thing changed.

        I was in Romania again last summer, it was great to see Bucuresti and Suceava after many years of not going there.

        Mulţumesc and anytime in Sahara: casa mea e casa ta!

        Obrigado

  13. Parker says:

    for the thumnail pictre just reference the dog.jeg file in your slidette/images folder

  14. Eric says:

    I am trying to figure out the size for the thumbnail pictues and the logo. Can you tell me the correct sizes?

  15. Nick says:

    hi
    I love this theme, but it just wont work on my new WP 2.8 installation. I get these error messages:

    Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/timThumb) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/domain-name.com/httpdocs:/tmp) in /var/www/vhosts/domain-name.com/httpdocs/wp-content/themes/slidette/functions.php on line 161

    Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/timThumb/timthumb.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/domain-name.com/httpdocs:/tmp) in /var/www/vhosts/domain-name.com/httpdocs/wp-content/themes/slidette/functions.php on line 164

    I’ve tried deleting the theme and uploading again. This is running on media temple hosting. Please let me know how I can fix the issue as I’d love to use this theme, it really is great!

    Hope to hear back soon, happy new year :)
    Nick

  16. Mark Adams says:

    Is there a way to make the slideshow viewable only on the front page. That way, when someone clicks on a page or a post, they don’t see the slideshow. Just thinking.

  17. Sheri Moritz says:

    I love this free template. My only problem is the photos are not showing up. Everywhere there is suppose to be a photo is a small box with x. The photo appears in the blog post but not the box or the slider. Thanks in advance for your help

    • Ciprian says:

      Hi Sheri,
      You have some permissions problem i think… The host is not very well configured… I will try to edit/make a thumb script that does not have this problem…
      Cip

      • Parker says:

        seems to not like bitmaps, try png or jpeg

        • nick says:

          its a hosting issue, not theme issue, get your host to update the mod_security settings. Unless your using wpmu, in that case its a problem with timthumb…wpmu doesnt support the use of wpmu….can be fixed though…http://www.binarymoon.co.uk/2009/10/timthumb-wordpress-mu/

  18. Tom Guard says:

    Ciprian
    Your live demo (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/slidette ) is showing no pictures in the slideshow header.

    I’m having the same problem. I went into the options and chose my category for the thumbnails.

    Is there a coding issue?
    I think it might be a problem with timthumb.

    • Ciprian says:

      timthumb works perfectly on a well configured host. If you can install timthumb on your host and it has the same problem It’s your host. If timthumb works, contact me and I will solve the issue for the theme.

    • Christian says:

      I had the same problem. Did you upload the photo through your wordpress post? I had the photo on my domain, but I had to actually upload it again through the wordpress image upload to get the photo to show. Seems like it has to be located in the uploads folder of wordpress to work.

      • David Lari says:

        I had the same issue. I had to upload photos to my WP uploads directory and also, the photo cannot appear after a more tag. I had to move my photos above the ‘more’ tags and now all is great. Love this theme.

  19. Kai says:

    Hello together. Very nice layout. How can I not be displayed in the Lower Product List on the home page the first 4 posts?

    Hallo zusammen. Sehr schönes Layout. Wie kann ich in der Unteren Artikelliste auf der Startseite die ersten 4 Beiträge nicht anzeigen lassen?

  20. richard says:

    Love the theme and the tip from other user. like how to change the time on the slider..
    I’m am still having a problem with the photo display in place of that dog. I install a plugin timthumb and i still don’t see the photo in the slider on the page… can you take a look and let me know what is happen. I talk to my host and the theme is run Great on there end.. but told me to ring you up for some help

  21. PRKR says:

    Is there a way on the front page to trigger the Read more button? so my front page has excerpts? any code I should know about??

    Thanks, Love the template!

  22. Bob says:

    very cool theme! I agree with several posts regarding more customization features such as:
    1.) the right side bar should be padded more (moved more to the right)
    2.) slideshow needs to have a setting for interval/speed. Currently too fast.
    3.) the footer cuts off half of the text

    • Doug Barned says:

      Hi Bob :)

      You can change the speed of the slideshow by editing the script.js in the theme folder. Simply change the value:

      var xWaitTimeline=3000;

      I’ve found 12000 to be a good value to be able to read the entire excerpt.

      The footer issue you’re experiencing can probably be fixed in the styles.css file. Same for the sidebar padding :)

  23. riza says:

    Ciprian
    I want to translate this theme to Uyghur and arabic languages, Is it possible to do that?

  24. Bob says:

    Hey Cip – When do you think an update for the theme will be released?

  25. James says:

    Really like your theme. I will use it on several of my blogs.
    I would like to be able to select more than one category to show up in the slider or have it rotate all the categories.

    Thanks for the superb theme!!

  26. Jack says:

    Anyone figured out how to fix code to take out the slide on the posts? Need some help here, thx!

    BTW this is a great Theme!! I was able to use “InLine Posts” and “Ultimate Category Excluder” to make each page more distinct and able to show multiple posts on a page, really cool.

  27. lounge says:

    Top ! nothing else…
    well come to France…

  28. Hey Love the theme
    Seems to work great apart from a few niggles – when I set up category and asign it in the Slidette – Additional posts are not showing.

    But a great looking theme

    Many thanks

  29. Fara says:

    Hello.
    Does anyone else have a problem with this theme as far as how it shows in Windows Internet Explorer??

    The first page (home page) of the blog is all messed up…
    None of the Articles are showing, they are all moved so far to the right, that you can’t see them… I checked with the template preview… the same thing (See the template preview in your IE browser here: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/slidette)...

    Did anyone come across this issue and if yes, how was it fixed??

    Too bad, I really like this theme.

    Many thanks, hope someone replies.

  30. azend says:

    Wow, this is an amazing theme! I’m just wondering how hard it would be to go about making the front page syndicate with NextGEN Galleries listed in the post. I really need it for a website I’ve made. I’ve ironed out all the other kinks but this is the only one that sticks. Is anyone willing to write a plugin?

  31. Peter says:

    Hi, great template! But I have a problem: The right columns is cuting the last letters o the text in my posts and pages. It doesn’t happend in the home page, only in the pages and in the post… how can I fix that? Thanks!

  32. Doug Barned says:

    Love the theme, thanks – may do an update to my site and move it over to Slidette :)

    Keep up the great work!

    /Doug

  33. nick says:

    awesome theme. home page though shows the whole text of each poss, is there a way to limit this? say limit the word count that shows before the read more button? and limit the amount of post that show on the home page with a button at the bottom saying ‘older posts’ the page is already really really long!!!

  34. nick says:

    ps. im using wpmu, it doesnt support timthumb! so images dont show…something to think about.

  35. nick says:

    sorry, another problem i just remembered. its with the pages, when you create a new page and try to add it under another parent page it doesn’t show properly on the site, each page creates a parent page instead of on a drop down….however in the footer it looks like its laid out properly in parent and child folders? weird.

  36. Mark says:

    Very nice theme. Thanks for sharing.

    For those of you who have reported problems with the main content area text getting obscured by the right sidebar do the following:

    Edit sytle.css as follows:
    ====================

    .xComments{
    width:650px;
    margin-left:0px;
    }

    #respond #comment{
    width:600px;
    height:100px;
    }

    Change the above two entries as follows:

    .xComments{
    width:600px;
    margin-left:0px;
    }

    #respond #comment{
    width:550px;
    height:100px;
    }

  37. nick says:

    much appreciate if you could reply to the points above so I can decide weather to keep using this theme or not……cheers

  38. nick says:

    also when i click on the top rss feed just a load of text comes up in a new window…this also happens when i click on the rss on this site (your site)

  39. Hello!

    I’m trying to use the theme in a subdomain (such as example.com/here) but I get an error regarding timThumb. I don’t know how to fix it, I’ve read there’s something to do with subdomains not being able to read the timThumb folder.

    I’ve seen the piece of code in functions.php and I tried to change it, but I get other errors… Is there a way to change the folder “timThumb” to other directory? How would the code be, then?

    Thanks in advance..

  40. Jan-Friso says:

    I can’t see the dog. Or the other pictures. It’s very ugly.

  41. nick says:

    clearly ciprian has given up responding! very helpful!

    • Ciprian says:

      Did not give up responding… I’m just Extremely busy and Have a Virus Right now… Will come back with all your answers in the next few days… sorry for the inactivity…

  42. nick says:

    sorry i had to do that to get a response…..trying to move fast and solve problems but very difficult when you get errors and dont know how to fix them.

    the ‘follow me’ twitter button goes to twitter home page, when you sign it doesnt go to the ‘talktorbay’ twitter account so that the user can add and follow, when you get time, could you please explain what needs to be done to fix this. Thank you.

  43. Paul King says:

    Nice theme! – would be even nicer if it

    A) auto generated thumbnails for images embedded in blog posts (where images are from urls, rather than stored locally), and

    B) omitted the “no image” dog picture and instead allowed text to flow to full width of slide preview for blog posts where no image was intended.

  44. Paul King says:

    whoops:
    … ,and

    D) put the “Read More” link at the BOTTIOM of the 4 preview boxes, rather than halfway up, leaving empty space below (see case in point on my website http://www.christchurcharchitects.co.nz)

  45. TPSupport says:

    Nice work Cip.
    @Nick, to add your twitter account to the “Follow Me” button, go to “Appearance”, click the editor link and on the right side, select “Header”. Scroll to the end and you will see the twitter link. Just add your account – http://www.twitter.com/youraccount. Hope that helps.
    This is a great theme, but let’s help the developer out whenever we can. Some people will charge hundreds of dollars for this.

    • Ciprian says:

      Thanks for the help. Really appreciate it. I’m still planning on when I will respond to all these comments.. so far I have a huge project underway and don’t have that time…

    • nick says:

      thanks for helping. There doesn’t appear to be an ‘editor’ link under ‘appearance’ though. Looked everywhere else aswell, the only thing that I can find regarding twitter is under the slidette theme options, but is says this is if you want to change the logo image? Ive tried putting my twitter account in there but it say this page doesnt exist when you click on it.

  46. Mariosagt says:

    Thank you for that really amazing theme!
    As you told you want to evolve it, please let me give some ideas to enhance it!

    - in the “Options” Dialog please give example of needed input (e.g. if logo.jpg – /images/logo.jpg or entire url needed)

    - Optionally allow logo.jpg to be background only (without removing Blog-Title)

    - Please make Headline in Top-Slider clickable – not only the READ-MORE Button

    And the most important thing for me:
    - Please make Slideshow Category disengageable, or add “All Categorys”…
    as I would like to have Slideshow rotate latest posts – regardless which category it belongs to…

    - Could you add a “Show Article or Excerpt” Option?
    If you do so, it would be fantastic to give Excerpts a thumbnail. (But in a pinch, Addon “Thumbnails for excerpts” could do that part of job, also)

    Please don´t feel nagged – I love your Theme yet already and just want to give you some well-meant feedback !!

    Keep rockin’ !

    • Fabio says:

      Hi Mario,
      in your blog for the first time that i see the sliding area working correctly (even in wordpress gallery demo the images are not shown).
      In wich way have you setting the permissions?
      thanks
      Fabio

      • Mariosagt says:

        Its just out-of-the-box working.
        How did you upload and installed Slidette?
        FTP-Upload should work fine.
        But as its running on my own webspace on my own server, I installed it this way:
        Logged in into my Server as root.
        chdir to webspace and /themes
        wget URL (the URL I CTRL-C ‘ed out of the WP-Website, and pasted it into putty by SHIFT-INSERT)
        unzip slid*.zip
        chown -R webx:apache slidette .. to correct the owner..

        That was all.. Worked fine, without the need to modify something.

        Maybe you should also look at your /uploads or image directorys chmod values.. 644 or 755 should be fine, 777 for testing purposes also an good idea.

        • Mariosagt says:

          hmm.. by the way..
          if even the WP-Demo doesn’t showed it to you..
          Maybe try another browser. Opera or Chrome for testing..
          Or update your Flash-Plugin..

          Cause I remember that I could see it already at the demo-site..

  47. nick says:

    bottom line – doesnt work with wpmu!

    however, its not just this theme, its most themes, in fact every theme that uses timthumb, very nice theme but im not going to be able to use it because of this. thanks anyway.

  48. nick says:

    i have been working with a coder from rentacoder, he has mangaed to re-code and make it work. I have no idea what he has done, but if you are interested in the fix, his username is ‘wordpress pro’ and can be found at rentacoder.com. cost me $20……

  49. eric says:

    This will solve the images thing not working with hostgator: get on chat and ask them to “whitelist” your domain.com

    It took about 5 min. for them to fix!

  50. Aditya says:

    Hello Sir ,

    I am going to use this theme slidette on my new technology blog But the problem i am facing is that with Pictures In Sideshow and Home Boxes are not showing
    So sir please tell me how to solve this problem i’ll be really graceful to you
    Thank You
