The Live Countdown Timer Plugin version for this tutorial is 2.1.0.5.

Live Countdown Timer can be added as a widget in any sidebar once or in any post (one timer / post). So let’s start with widgets:

Live Countdown Timer Widget

In your Wordpress Admin Panel, once logged in, on the left menu, you need to go under Appearance->Widgets:

Wordpress 2.8.6 Appearance and widgets admin menu

Inside the widgets page, under available widgets, you will see the name Live Countdown Timer. Drag and drop that into your sidebar…

drag and drop live countdown timer widget

Then it will show in it’s content just a title(so you can set the title of the widget) and a link to a dedicated page for all the Countdown Timer widget options:

Widget options dedicated page#1 Time zone: (if you want to select a specific timezone so your deadline will be exact, you need to change this to the appropriate zone).
#2 Date: You need to set the date (month/day/year) that you will be able to select from a popup once you click on the checkbox.
#3 Select Time: For a even more accurate timeline, you are able to select hour, minute and second when the event will take place
#4 Timer Type: There are 3 timer types: Original(Days/Hours/Minutes/Seconds above and under the timer), Plain Text(Text Next to timer) and Bubble (bubble background with only 1 option(days or hours or minutes or seconds – depending which is bigger)
#5 LCT Type Size: The size of the timer type (comes in 3 sizes: Small, Medium and Big)
#6 Live Preview: Any change that you make to timer type, size, Text, color, bg color and transparent background will be viewable in the live preview section.
#7,#8,#9,#10 Replace text: The Days, Hours, Minutes, Seconds text can be replaced in these textboxes.
#11 Text Color: Pick text color from a color chooser that pop’s out when you click the textbox.
#12 BG Color: Same as text color only for background.
#13 Transparent Background: Make the  background of the text transparent  when checked
#14 Post to Appchain Events: Check this if you want your event to be posted on AppChain Events service (a website that organizes all events like this and more…)
#15 Update Button: Click when you want all the changes to be saved and to take place

Once you completed the configuration of this page your widget timer is completely configured correctly.

Live Countdown Timer Inside a Post or Page

The exact configuration page is available for the LCT inside a page or a post.. only this time it’s available as a widget.

So if you go to Posts – > Edit, select a post (or if you create a new post or page), you will notice on the right sidebar (under categories) a new widget called Live Countdown Timer (i’m not talking about the widgets page… i’m talking about the widgets inside the edit/add new page in admin).

expanded live countdown timer widgetAfter all are configured there is one more step to do before saving. You may notice a “Embed Code” section at the very bottom of the widget:

live countdown timer widget embed codeThat code needs to be copied and pasted inside your post/page content where you want your Live Countdown Timer to be. The Embed code will be replaced with the actual live countdown timer once the page loads:

To disable it you just need to remove the Embed code  and uncheck the “check to enable” checkbox in the widget on the right.

That’s it…

    Hi!

Nice plugin. Great work. I have a suggestion. How about showing the days hours minutes seconds in a bubble version? It would be amazing…

    thnx in advance :)

Great Timer! One question / Request. When I add it as a widget in my sidebar, the “title” of the timer is perfectly centered, but the timer values are left-justified. I went through some of the CSS and other files but can’t find how to center it.

Where can I align the timer to be centered?

  3. Cezar says:

how do i add this in the sidebar without using widgets?

i can’t get my countdown in my “available widgets” >.<
please help me what must i do?

This needs to also accept the option of having a URL in the options so that that when the countdown timer is clicked takes you to that URL.

    Makes sense, no?
